Larimar is a cloudy blue-white variety of Pectolite. So far (in 2010) it can only be found in just two locations on our planet: As a special variety of Pectolite that formed as a hydrothermal mineral in igneous rock at the peninsula of Barahona in the Dominican Republic and at the „Fittà“ close to Soave in Italy.
Larimar was discovered as late as 1974 and is used as a commercial gemstone since the beginnings of the 1980s of the 20th century.
